Paa Kwesi Asare is an accomplished news anchor. He currently works as a television and radio presenter at Ghana Television station, TV3 since 2016.
He is the host of the weekly business and economic analysis programme Business Focus and acts as an anchor for TV3’s main broadcast at 7 o’clock each evening.
He earned his first degree in sociology between 2006 and 2010 from the University of Ghana before moving on to Birmingham City University in 2017 to earn an Msc in Digital Marketing/Future Media. He earned his Master of Public Administration from Auburn University in December 2021 as well.
Asare started his journey in broadcast journalism with a voluntary service as a presenter at a campus radio station called Radio Universe from August 2007-October 2009. Between Aug 2004-Jul 2014, he worked as a business news anchor at the Multimedia Group Ltd. Between Aug 2014-Feb 2016, he worked as a broadcast journalist at Starr Fm. He became a business news anchor for Media General, Ghana in 2016, working with them till Aug 2020.
The media guru was also once the Communications Officer in the United States (Aug 2020- Jan 2022) before adding more feathers to his sleeve and became the marketing officer at ICC, Auburn, Alabama, United States (Jan 2022-Jul 2023). He now heads of business news at Media General, Ghana since January 2023 till date.
The 2023 BBC News Komla Dumor Award has just been presented to Paa Kwesi Asare.
Paa Kwesi will spend three months collaborating with BBC News teams in London on television, radio, and online as part of the award. Through training, workshops, and mentoring from seasoned BBC journalists, he will have the chance to strengthen his journalism abilities.
The award was established in 2015 to pay tribute to Komla Dumor, a BBC World News presenter who was well-known for his dedication to reporting on African issues in-depth and accurately.
Speaking on his achievement, he said, “I am absolutely thrilled to have won the Komla Dumor Award. This is arguably the most prestigious award for any African journalist, and I am honoured to be in the company of such incredible previous winners. Komla Dumor was a true pioneer in African journalism, and it’s a great privilege to be following in his footsteps. This award gives me the motivation to continue striving for excellence in my career, and I am excited to use this platform to amplify African voices and tell the stories that matter to our continent.”
