Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo is a Nigerian songwriter, music producer, and singer who had a degree in Law. He is a vocal sensation who has been active in music since the early 2000s. Cobhams has had associated acts with both Nigerian and international artistes like Asa, Angelique Kidjo, Beyoncé, D’banj, Banky W, and many more music stars. He formed his first music production and label company Cobhams Asuquo Music Production (CAMP) in 2008, and in 2016 he started Vintage Gray Media.
Cobhams been able to arrange music, and performed with bands at international music events such as; The Harare International Festival of Arts; the AFA Sponsored French Cultural Center Concert, AFA Sponsored French Cultural Center Concert in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nigeria Week in Paris and the launch of MTV’s one hundredth channel (MTV Base Africa) at Abuja, Nigeria.
In 2014, Cobhams performed with other renowned Nigerian artists at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He was a participant of the three-day US-Africa summit. Cobhams was invited by the ONE campaign to produce the anthem for the “Poverty is Sexist’ campaign titled Strong Girl.
The music talent has composed and arranged film scores to be interpreted for conservatoires, as well as for film and stage performances such as “A Voice for Ella” by Uche Macaulay, Sunshine (Alpha Vision), “Bent Arrows” by Isang Awah and Communication For Change’s “Bayelsan Sillhouttes”.
Cobhams Is presently working on various projects and is a producer on the Coke Studio Africa Season 3 show, airing across various African countries.
Some weeks back, Cobhams had trended on microblogging platform, Twitter, after posting a video of himself, recording a cover of DJ Neptune’s song, ‘Nobody’. Asked why he did a cover of the song, Asuquo said, “I generally like to ‘mess’ around with different types of music and I happen to love this particular song. It’s one of those tunes that are hard to forget. I ‘covered’ it because it was fun, which is a strong motivation behind almost anything I do musically. I like to enjoy my work and I consider that to be quite rewarding. That it was well received was just mind-blowing.”
