Rachel Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex is an American member of the British royal family and former actress. Born on 4 Aug 1981.
She was born and raised in California, and she started acting at Northwestern University. At first, she had some difficulty getting roles early in her career due to being “ethnically ambiguous” because she wasn’t black enough for the black roles and she wasn’t white enough for the white ones. But to support herself between acting jobs, she worked as a freelance calligrapher and taught bookbinding.
Finally, she had her breakthrough in acting with her first role as a nurse in an episode of the daytime soap opera General Hospital which later gave her more roles in movies like The Century city(2004), The war at home(2006), CSI:NY (2006), etc.
In July 2011, she joined the cast of the USA Network show Suits through to late 2017 and the seventh season. Her character, Rachel Zane, began as a paralegal and eventually became an attorney.
Markle’s last movie role was Rachel Zane which lasted for seven seasons (2011-2018). She also handled a lifestyle blog called The Tig which gave her recognition for her fashion sense and led to the creation of her clothing lines.
In 2018, she got married to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and she became known as the Duchess of Sussex. And she stopped acting.
In January 2020, the couple stepped down as senior members of the royal family and decided to dwell in her hometown, California. They both launched a public organization called Archewell Inc. which focuses on non-profit activities and creative media ventures in October 2020. They are blessed with two children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
Markle earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in theater and international studies from Northwestern’s School of Communication.
