For more than a decade, the name Frank Edoho has been inseparable from the iconic red chair and the dramatic tension of the highest-stakes question in Nigerian television. As the long-standing host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Edoho did not merely present a game show; he became a nightly guest in the living rooms of millions, revered for his eloquence, his calm authority and the distinct blend of wit and warmth that has made him a household name.
Born on 8 July 1972 in Kano State, Edoho holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Calabar. Before the suits and the spotlights, he was a rap artist known as Mc Frank, sharpening his stage presence and his love for language. His career in broadcasting began at the Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation, after which he anchored a breakfast television show for the Nigerian Television Authority, Channel 9, in Calabar.
Edoho’s defining moment arrived in 2004 when he became the host of the Nigerian franchise of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? He hosted the immensely popular game show for thirteen years, until 2017, when he parted ways with the programme due to contractual disagreements. He made a triumphant return to the helm in February 2022.
However, the glamour of the Millionaire set belied a more modest reality. In a 2026 interview, Edoho revealed that for the first two years of hosting the hit show, his monthly salary was just over one hundred thousand naira.
Despite this, he maintained the impeccable image of a man who had already won the jackpot. “I had to wear a suit as if I owned all the money,” he said, a mantra that speaks to his professionalism and his understanding of showmanship.
His fortunes changed when telecommunications giant MTN came on board as a sponsor, giving him the leverage to renegotiate a deal. He approached his boss with a fresh salary figure, and his proposal was accepted with three months of back pay.
Beyond the game show, Edoho is a man of diverse creative pursuits. He is a respected filmmaker and photographer. While he has admitted to hating the intrusion of fame, calling himself a “regular street boy” at heart, Edoho has never lost his edge. He has navigated personal challenges, including a separation from his second wife, Sandra Onyenucheya.
Whether he is effortlessly bantering with contestants or sharing the lessons of his long career, Frank Edoho remains a gold standard for Nigerian broadcasters: a man who proved that authenticity, humour and resilience are the real winning answers.
