Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, was born on July 2, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He makes records and sings and also write songs. His father Samuel had a welding business, while his mother Bose Ogulu was a language translator. Benson Idonije, his maternal grandfather, once served as Fela Kuti’s manager. Later, his mother took over as his manager.
Burna Boy was born and raised in Southern Nigeria, where he first used FL Studio to create his own beats.
He began his musical career after returning to Lagos. As the lead song from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013), “Like to Party,” was released in 2012, he became a household name. Burna Boy inked deals with Warner Music Group internationally and Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States in 2017. His first release on a big label was his third studio album, Outside, released in 2018.
In order to complete his education, he moved to London, England after attending Corona Secondary School in Agbara, Ogun State. Between 2008 and 2009, he studied media technology at the University of Sussex, and between 2009 and 2010, he studied media communications and culture at Oxford Brookes University. Burna moved into a one-year internship at Rhythm 93.7 FM after returning to Port Harcourt.
