Brief Profile: Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth is an American rapper, songwriter, and producer. He started his music career in his teenage years with a stage name K-Dot, where he released a mixtape that gave him a signing into Top Dawg Entertainment. His music later began to gain ground with his first retail release, ‘Overly Dedicated’ and his subsequent first studio album, ‘Section.80’. His huge enthusiasm in music won him the heart of fans across. His second album ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2012, and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In the high spirit of music, Lamar went on to release his third studio album, ‘To Pimp Butterfly’, an album that is an ensemble of soul, funk, and jazz, and said word. The album became his first number one album on the Billboard 200, and was the most acclaimed album of the 2010s. 

A lead single ‘Humble’ of his fourth album ‘Damn’, topped the chart of US Billboard Hot 100, and the album became the first non-classical and non-jazz album to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

Lamar is a recipient for several awards in his music career, which spans through 13 Grammy Awards, 5 Billboard Music Awards, 2 American Music Awards, 11 MTV Video Music Awards, 1 Brit Award, 1 Pulitzer Prize.

He was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. He received the California State Senate’s Generational Icon Award.

In his business enterprise, Lamar has a partnership deal with Reebok and Nike fashion line. In 2020, Lamar and Dave Free announced the launching of pgLang, which is described as a multilingual, artist-friendly service company.

He work has been cited as an inspiration by several artists like Dua Lipa, Jhené Aiko, Khalid, Christine and the Queens, and Roddy Ricch.
