Morgan Freeman is an American movie actor and script narrator, and movie director. Freeman made his acting debut at age nine, when he played the lead role in a school play. While in high school at age 12, he won a statewide drama competition. On his graduation from high school in 1955, he opted for an enlistment in the United States Air Force to serve as an Automatic Tracking Radar Repairman, and later rose to the rank of Airman 1st Class.
Freeman’s acting career took effect in the 1960s, when he worked as a dancer at the World’s Fair in 1964. He acted in a touring company version of ‘The Royal Hunt of the Sun’, and also appeared as an extra in the 1965 film ‘The Pawnbroker’. His breakthrough movie was ‘Who Says I Can’t Ride a Rainbow!’ albeit, he has been featuring in some soap operas. His great theatrical works in roles he play earned him Obie Award in 1980 for the lead role in ‘Coriolanus’.
He subsequently received the Obie Award for the second time in 1984 for his Preacher role in ‘The Gospel of Colonus’. He went ahead to win his third Obie Award in 1989 for his role in ‘Driving Miss Daisy’. At this time was the awakening of his potential as a great actor, with several movies he starred in as a supporting actor in the roles of a wise man or father. From being a supporting actor, his prominence in expertise got him major lead role in movies like ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Unforgiven’, ‘Seven’, and ‘Prince of Thieves’.
Freeman, who is notable for his distinct calm voice is the favorite for the any film narration. He narrated two films in 2005, ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘March on the Penguins’ which was an Academy award-winning documentary film. After several times of nomination for supporting actor by the Academy, Freeman won the 77th Academy award for the category of Best Supporting Actor in his role in ‘Million Dollar Baby’ movie. He has starred in many movies picking up the roles of God, mentor, father, clergyman, and inspiring characters. He produced the Nelson Mandela biopic titled ‘Invictus’, a motivational movie about the impact of Nelson Mandela and the South Africa rugby team at the World Cup tournament. A movie in which Freeman played the role of Mandela.
Freeman also starred in the blockbuster movies ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ and ‘London Has Fallen’, which were produced in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
Coupling with his landmark career journey in acting, Freeman is reaching out to charitable activities by donating relief supports to victims of natural disasters in vulnerable places. His fluent narration of topical issues has made him to narrate clips on environmental awareness on important issues.
With dozens of awards and recognitions of his contributions to the world of entertainment and humanity, he was named the 54th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment in 2017.
