Given Edward is a Tanzanian social entrepreneur who is working to improve education in the country.
Given moved into Education technology after working with multiple young businesses in various aspects locally and internationally, and built MyElimu, a platform that enables secondary school students from various schools to meet online and debate anytime, from anywhere. A phone app that allows students to ask curriculum-related questions and receive responses via smart or feature phones. Machine Learning technology is used in the database to assure suitable answers and improve responses.
Given was honored by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2015 for his work with and for young people. He was also named a Royal Commonwealth Associate Fellow, an honor bestowed upon excellent young people from around the Commonwealth.
He’s also the creator and CEO of Mtabe, a service that employs AI to offer learning content to students who don’t have access to the internet or cellphones as well as those who do. With Mtabe, he hopes to enable students in rural villages to benefit from e-learning in the same way that students in urban areas do.
Given seeks to educate young people so that they can achieve their goals in the same way that others have.
He was chosen to the Quartz Africa Innovators 2019 list in honor of his unwavering support for African education. In November 2018, he was awarded the mYouth Best Innovation from Asia, Africa, and Europe combined at the European Youth Awards.
Given was just included on Avance Media’s list of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans for 2021.
