From the standup stages of Obafemi Awolowo University to the global streaming arena, Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, better known as Shank Comics, has orchestrated one of the most compelling rises in Nigerian digital entertainment.
The Oyo State native, born 23 March 1997, graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He first cut his teeth as a standup comedian during his undergraduate days at the university’s Pit Theatre.
But it was the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 that proved the catalyst for his breakthrough, as his short, relatable skits capturing everyday Nigerian life went stratospherically viral.
What sets Shank apart is his refusal to be pigeonholed. In 2025, he boldly pivoted from short form comedy to the world of live streaming, a move he described not as a departure, but as “added value” to his brand. The transition proved inspired. H
e joined Kai Cenat’s Streamer University in the US, where he was part of the inaugural Class of 2025. During the bootcamp, he was randomly selected as the winner of a $10,000 prize, approximately ₦16 million, sponsored by MrBeast.
His meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. In March 2026, Shank was crowned Best Streamer at the prestigious SiGMA Africa Awards in Cape Town. The award, presented on 3 March 2026, recognised his “consistency, audience engagement and impact” within the online streaming industry.
The honour cemented his status as a pioneer in a sector now valued as a billion naira industry, with his net worth estimated between $2 million and $2.5 million.
From a hungry, jobless graduate to a continental award winner commanding millions of followers, Shank’s journey is a blueprint for the modern African creator. As he himself puts it: “The world must hear my name.” With his signature “Lit Gang” energy, he is ensuring that the world is not just listening, but watching.
