In the dynamic landscape of African entrepreneurship, the narrative of the singularly focused founder is often celebrated. Fred Oyetayo, however, presents a compelling counter-narrative: that of a multidisciplinary pioneer who has skilfully woven together the disparate threads of law, technology, and education to build ventures of significant impact.
His journey from a university dorm room to recognition on the Forbes Africa list is a testament to the power of a hybrid vision in the modern digital economy.
Oyetayo’s entrepreneurial instincts surfaced early during his law degree at Afe Babalola University. It was there, about eight years ago, that he founded Fresible, a creative digital innovation agency, from his student accommodation. While he proceeded to qualify as a lawyer, being called to the Nigerian Bar and later obtaining a Master of Laws degree, his passion for the digital space remained undimmed. Rather than seeing these paths as divergent, Oyetayo perceived a unique intersection.
He launched the Law Repository, an online platform for legal materials in Africa, which later evolved into Dlaw.ng—a web application employing artificial intelligence to provide legal services to small and medium-scale businesses in Nigeria.
Under his leadership as Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Fresible grew from a dorm-room idea into a multi-million naira agency. The company provides a suite of services including website development, software creation, digital marketing, and events management.
Its client portfolio expanded to include esteemed institutions such as Afe Babalola University, the Federal High Court of Nigeria, and the Dangote Group. Beyond commercial success, Oyetayo embedded a mission of empowerment within his business model. Through Fresible, he has trained more than sixty individuals in entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and web development, focusing on imparting practical skills.
This consistent drive and innovation have attracted considerable acclaim. In 2019, Oyetayo was named to the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list for the technology category, a definitive recognition of his influence.
His accolades also include being listed in SME100 Africa’s 25 Under 25, being a finalist at the Aso Villa Demo Day organised by the Nigerian Presidency, and receiving the Exceptional Talent Award from Tech Nation in the United Kingdom. He has also shared his insights as a TEDx speaker, discussing themes of resilience and breakthrough.
For Oyetayo, this multifaceted success is guided by a core principle of self-awareness. He has been quoted as advising, “One of the first things I realised in life is self-awareness. If you want to connect the dots, you must know your purpose”. It is this clarity of purpose that enables him to serve as a partner at a Lagos legal practice while simultaneously steering a thriving tech agency and its ancillary arms, such as Fresible Music.
His story continues to inspire a generation of entrepreneurs who see not boundaries, but bridges, between different fields, proving that in the new African economy, the most potent innovations often occur at the intersection of disciplines.
