Hip-hop has no doubt been a lucrative venture since its advent in the β70s. American rapper, Jacques Berman Webster II, popularly known as Travis Scott, is at the fast pace of adding a staggering $100 million to his wealth in 2020, according to Forbes.
Scott is the cover subject of Forbesβ 10th annual 30 Under 30 Issue. This is not the first time the 28-year-old artiste will be on the list. The 2021 Forbes Under 30 list features 600 diverse people within 20 different categories that include art & style, consumer tech, education, energy, enterprise tech, finance, food & drink, games, healthcare, Hollywood & entertainment, manufacturing, marketing & advertising, media, music, retail, science, social entrepreneurship, social media, sports, and venture capital.
The Forbes feature profiles Scottβs business endeavors, which include a hard seltzer with AB InBev, the worldβs largest brewer, and how he is making achieving bigger feats as an entrepreneur with lucrative partnerships with big brands like PlayStation, General Mills, McDonaldβs, and Fortnite among others.
βThe larger story here is that brands historically have told celebrities how to say their message. I think itβs very clear that Travis Scott and his team have gotten through to these brands that they have a very clear aesthetic, messaging, and strategy,β Blake Robbins, a partner at Ludlow Ventures, tells Forbes. βIf he can make McDonaldβs cool β the thing of pop culture right now β thatβs the ultimate sign heβs made it.β
In September, Scott had curated a uniqueness that had not been done since 1992, and the last person to do it was the basketball legend, Michael Jordan. Fast-food chain giant McDonaldβs announced their idea of adding a Travis Scott meal to their menu for a limited time.
βI couldnβt be more excited to bring the Cactus Jack x McDonaldβs collaboration to life,β said Scott at the time in a written statement. βWe are bringing together two iconic worlds. Including a charitable component was key for me, and I canβt wait for people to see what we have in store.β
