At just sixteen, Nigerian tech prodigy Belusochim Ugochukwu is making remarkable strides in artificial intelligence and robotics at Apple.
His current role, listed on LinkedIn as “ML + Robotics @ Apple,” places him within the company’s Engineering Systems and Computer Infrastructure organisation, where he works as a machine learning intern focused on computer vision and robotics research.
Ugochukwu’s journey into technology began early. At eleven, he competed in Mathematics and Physics Olympiads, contests that honed his problem solving abilities. His passion for artificial intelligence, however, was sparked by personal tragedy: the loss of his grandmother to an undiagnosed illness motivated him to explore how modern technology could address real world health challenges.
By fifteen, he had graduated from high school and started college, quickly diving into advanced research on diffusion models for drug discovery. His practical work includes designing and prototyping robotic wheelchairs for people with disabilities.
Alongside his research, he has demonstrated entrepreneurial drive, founding PathWiseAI, an education technology venture that uses artificial intelligence to support learning. He also participated in Y Combinator’s AI Startup School and collaborated on Care Compass, a tool developed during a Google DeepMind hackathon to help patients find suitable doctors.
Ugochukwu’s ascent is seen as a testament to the growing potential of young African innovators on the global stage. His ability to blend academic excellence, applied robotics, and startup experience exemplifies a new generation of talent making an impact years ahead of schedule.
