by Duke Magazine

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has been a vocal advocate for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing its potential to boost Africa’s GDP by $450 billion by 2035.

At the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos, he urged African leaders to expedite trade agreements and eliminate barriers to intra-continental commerce. Shettima highlighted the importance of increasing intra-African trade, which currently stands at about 15%, compared to 70% in Europe. He called for enhanced collaboration between governments and the private sector to realize the AfCFTA’s full potential.

Under his leadership, Nigeria is positioning itself as a key player in driving economic integration across Africa, aiming to create a more unified and prosperous continent. Shettima’s commitment to economic development and integration reflects a broader vision for Africa’s future, one that leverages collective strength to overcome shared challenges.
