Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba is a Nigerian legendary singer, songwriter, music producer, businessman, and human activist.
He started his music career over 2 decades ago, when he moved to Lagos to collaborate with rapper Blackface Naija. A music group named Plantashun Boiz was born out of the trio of 2Baba, Blackface, and Faze.
Thereafter, Plantashun Boiz went ahead to release two albums namely; Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003) under Dove Records before being disbanded in 2004.
Apriori the disbandment of the group, 2Baba released his debut solo album “Face 2 Face” in 2004, and contained in it is the love-cheering song “African Queen”, which can be said to have shot him to stardom.
He subsequently released his second album “Grace 2 Grace” two years after, and was composed of “One Love”, “4 Instance”, and other intriguing songs.
2Baba is the founder of Hypertek Entertainment record label.
The release of his experimental album “The Unstoppable” in 2009 release toned 2Baba onto International recognition with the international edition of the same album. This breakthrough made him the first Nigerian artist to have an album fast selling.
The international edition of this album won him two awards at the 2010 SoundCity Music Video Awards. He also went ahead to win the Channel O Music Video Awards in the category of Best African Western award, and the MTV Africa Music Awards in the category of Best Male Artist of the year.
In recognition of his creative work, 2Baba is the first non-Liberian to become an honorary member of the Liberian music society for his outstanding contributions to the development of African music. He is an ambassador of the Red cross society of Nigeria.
2Baba has had numerous tours across the globe, collaborating with different artists and graciously winning awards for himself. He is a revered figure in Nigeria music industry, as he is fondly adored as a music legend of hiphop in Nigeria and across Africa.
2Baba has also been a brand ambassador for organizations and industries.
He established an NGO “The 2Baba Foundation”, whose motto is “service to humanity”. The foundation is aim to build a national peaceful coexistence, and accountability in governance.
2Baba was appointed in 2009 as an ambassador by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He to this effect released a song “Man Unkind” to create an awareness on the menace of fake and sub-standard food and drug products in Nigeria.
In January 2017, 2Baba announced a partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He made an initial donation of over US$11,000 to UNHCR for IDPs and returnees. He proceeded to release a song dedicated to Internally Displaced Persons titled “Hold My Hand” in 2017 to mark the World Refugee Day, and promised 60 percent of the proceeds from the song to the IDP course.
Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia can be said to be one of the Africa’s finest artistes ever liveth. He has been a recipient for major awards like MTV Europe Music Award, World Music Award, Channel O Music Video Awards, Headies Awards, BET Awards, amongst others.
This music star bagged two different honorary degree of Master of Art in Music from Obafemi Awolowo University and Igbinedion University.
