The self-described African Giant and Grammy Award winner Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, made the list for the third time when former US President Barack Obama issued his summer playlist for 2023 as has been custom. Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr, a Mavin Records signee, was also included for the second time.
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Obama revealed on his Twitter page that 41 songs had been chosen, including two Nigerian artists: Burna Boy’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World” (with British singer 21 Savage) and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, alias Ayra Starr’s “Sability” (also featuring Ayra Starr).
Obama tweeted, “Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer – a mix of old and new. Looking forward to hearing what I have missed.”
Reacting to Obama’s tweet, Ayra Starr wrote, “’Rush’ last year, ‘Sability’, this year! They will fall in line one by one.”
