The Nigerian comedy industry celebrated the inaugural Nigeria Comedy Awards on Sunday in Victoria Island, Lagos State’s Eko Conference Centre.
As Nollywood actors received plaques in recognition of their work, some of the top comedic stars, like Layi Wasabi, Taooma, and Broda Shagi, were also honoured.
The purpose of the celebration, according to reports, was to recognise exceptional comedians and enterprises.
Bunmi Davies, the founder of Afrotainment, served as the event producer, along with Wale Adenuga, the managing director of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wole Adenuga, the managing director of WapTV, and Debbie Odutayo, the executive director of Royal Roots Communication Network.
The event was hosted by TV star Bukunmi Adeaga Ilori, also known as “Kiekie.” Veteran singers 2Baba and 9ice, as well as comedian Akpororo, were the special guest performers.

- Best Standup Comedian (Male)- Basket Mouth
- Best stand-up comedian(Female) – Helen Paul
- Best Comedy Movie – Passport
- Best Comedy Actor Series/Movie (Female) – Mercy Johnson (Passport)
- Best Comedy Actor, Series/Movie (Male) – Broda Shagi (Face to Face)
- Best Comedy Kid category (Male/Female) – Kiriku
- Best Comedy Cartoonist – Dada Adekola (Mr. and Mrs.; Vanguard Newspaper). He was also awarded a prize of N1,000,000.
- Recognition award – Sola Sobowale
- Best Comedy Skit-maker (Male)- Mr Macaroni
- Best Comedy Skit Maker (Female) – Taaooma
- Revelation of the Year Award – Layi Wasabi (Prize money of N1,000,000)
- Posthumous award – Late Gbenga Adeboye (Daughter receives the award on behalf of her dad with a whopping sum of N1,000,000)
- Posthumous Award – Late Sam Loco Efe (A prize of N1,000,000)
- WapTV Special Award – Akpan and Oduma
