In the sphere of international finance and African development, few names resonate with the same calibre of experience and vision as that of Amadou Hott. A seasoned, dynamic, and results-oriented executive, Mr Hott’s distinguished career spans twenty-six years at the highest levels of government, multilateral development banking, and global investment finance. His profound understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing emerging economies has established him as a pivotal figure in shaping Africa’s economic destiny.
Currently, Mr Hott serves as the Chair of the Vision Invest Africa Advisory Board and the firm’s senior representative on the continent, a role he assumed in August 2025. From this position, he provides strategic guidance on African matters, oversees regional strategy, and manages key stakeholder relationships to foster portfolio growth across Africa.
This appointment follows his recent candidacy for the Presidency of the African Development Bank Group, nominated by his native Senegal, a testament to his standing as a thought leader of global significance. Prior to this, he was the Special Envoy of the President of the African Development Bank and Global Champion for the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa, a role that leveraged his expertise in mobilising finance for sustainable and climate-resilient projects.
Mr Hott’s commitment to public service is exemplified by his tenure as Senegal’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation from 2019 to 2022. During this critical period, he helped steward Senegal’s economy through the global pandemic, maintaining its position as a leading economy in West Africa without succumbing to recession. He also spearheaded a comprehensive revamp of the nation’s public-private partnership framework, introducing a more transparent and attractive law that spurred landmark innovations in infrastructure investment.
Before entering government, he was Vice President at the African Development Bank, responsible for the Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth complex. His journey to this multilateral stage was paved by a formidable career in international investment banking, with leadership roles in New York, London, Dubai, and Lagos. He served as Director for Africa at Millennium Finance Corporation in Dubai, Chief Executive Officer of UBA Capital in Lagos, and held positions at renowned institutions including ABN AMRO and BNP Paribas in London.
In 2012, Mr Hott answered the call to serve his country directly. Returning to Senegal, he became a Special Adviser to the President, founded and became the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Senegal’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (FONSIS), and chaired the development of the Blaise Diagne International Airport, a transformative national infrastructure project.
An academic with a robust foundation in applied mathematics and economics, Mr Hott holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Sorbonne University in Paris, which included an exchange at New York University to study Financial Mathematics. His exceptional promise was recognised early when he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012.
Amadou Hott’s career is a powerful narrative of a global financier who turned his expertise towards nation-building and continental advancement. His life’s work stands as a testament to the belief that strategic investment, green infrastructure, and sound economic policy are the fundamental pillars for driving a sustainable prosperity for Africa.
