National Football League’s Patrick Mahomes Makes History As The Youngest Sports Team Owner At 24

by Duke Magazine

It was a great news indeed in the world of sports for Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he is now a co-owner of the Kansas City Royals.

Mahomes’ new enterprise now makes him the youngest sports team owner at only 24-years-old, according to a press release.

“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” said Mahomes, who was once a promising amateur baseball prospect drafted by the Detroit Tigers, according to ESPN, before switching lanes to focus on football.

He concluded saying: “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

The Kansas City Royals are excited to welcome Mahomes to their ownership group and integrate him into the baseball world.

“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” said John Sherman, the team’s chairman, CEO and principal owner, in the press release. “Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field. “Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball — dating back to his childhood.”

This historical feat for Mahomes adds onto his already impressive resume of winning the 2018 NFL MVP title after throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns — which ties for second-most in a single season in the league’s history, the press release states.

The news came in following few weeks that Mahomes secured a 10-year extension on his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs with $450 million worth.
