At the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Lagos, Nollywood star Femi Adebayo won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the historical thriller Jagun Jagun. The film, which received seven nominations, also secured Achievement Awards for visual effects and make-up.
Elsie Abang was awarded Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in KIPKEMBOI, while Michell Lemuya received the Best Young Promising Actor award for NAWI. Additionally, Zolisa Xaluva won Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Queenstown King, and Jackie Appiah Emery took home Best Actress in a Leading Role for her part in Red Carpet.
The award for Best Feature Film by a Director went to Letters to Goddo, directed by Harry Bentil. Jahmil X.T Qubeka was named Best Director for his film The Queenstown Kings. Lifetime achievement awards were given to Souleymane Cissé (Mali), Nacer Khemir (Tunisia), and Haile Gerima (Ethiopia).
Special recognition awards went to Alain Gomis, representing Senegal and Gabon, and Tsitsi Dangarembga from Zimbabwe. The Weekend won the AMAA Best Film award and also received accolades for Screenplay, Cinematography, and the National Film and Video Censors Board Award for Best Nigerian Film.
