Ajax’s Cameroonian Goalkeeper Andre Onana Lighting Up His Mother’s Hometown

Unknown too many, inadequate supply of electricity is still a big deal in some countries as they live in abject darkness far from the basic social amenities.

According to The Economist, the Africa continent is home to almost a fifth of the world’s population, but only accounts for less than 4 percent of global electricity use, and urban communities are faced with the most challenges.

In an effort to ameliorate this lingering condition, Ajax goalkeeper, Andre Onana is bringing light to the native people of Mengueme in the small town of Ossoessam, Cameroon, the hometown of his mother.

Onana, through his gesture, funded an electric grid that has been able to provide locals of Ossoessam with the vital energy resource they need, according to Bleacher Report’s Twitter.

However, Actu Cameroon reportedly confirmed that Onana has made it a point to bring electricity back to his mother’s hometown from the inception of his football career, and has won the hearts of even more sports fans after his kind gesture.

Onana began his football career at Samuel Eto’o’s academy before making a move to Barcelona almost ten years ago, Face 2 Face Africa reports. After spending five years at Barcelona Academy, he then moved to Ajax in 2015 where he is currently their No.1 pick for goalkeeper.

His current contract at Ajax is expected to expire next year, and reports that Barcelona would love to have him back are currently floating around. Last October, Onana revealed that he rejected the offer to move back to Barcelona, but admitted he had interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
