The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has recently introduced the Kobe and Gianni Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award to honor the late duo who passed away early this year.
The new award, according to the female basketball body, will recognize an individual or group who has made significant contributions to the visibility, perception, and advancement of women’s and girls’ basketball at various levels.
“Kobe was an incredible champion of women’s basketball and Gianna shared his passion and dedication to our game,” started by WNBA, Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
“The Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award will honor their legacy and reflect Kobe’s commitment to mentoring the next generation of players, promoting the game and giving back to the community,” she added in her statement.
The award, the first of its kind, will honor the late Kobe Bryant, who was a known supporter of the WNBA and women basketball and his daughter, Gianna Bryant who was already plying along Kobe’s career path.
The recipients of this Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award will be remarkable advocates, who will use their time, skill and channels to raise landmark recognition for the game of basketball.
It was gathered that the Late Kobe Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, will play the major role of determining the recipient of the honorary award and will always present the award annually at the NBA All-Star, according to WNBA
