Anthony Kan Onwordi, better known by his pen name Toni Kan, is a multi-faceted Nigerian talent born on June 11, 1971. He’s not just a writer but also an editor, public relations senior management executive, and educator. Kan gained recognition for his captivating collection of short stories titled “Nights of a Creaking Bed,” published by Cassava Republic Press, where he delves into the intricacies of African sexuality with profound insight and sensitivity.
Kan’s literary prowess was acknowledged when he clinched the prestigious NDDC/Ken Saro Wiwa literature prize in 2009, bestowed upon him by the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). His academic journey is equally impressive; he pursued English literature at the University of Jos and furthered his studies to earn an M.A in English literature at the University of Lagos in 1999, graduating as the top performer in his class.
Toni Kan’s academic achievements, including being recognized as the Best Graduating Student in both his B.A and M.A classes, are notable. He was awarded the University Scholar Scheme at the University of Jos in 1991 and the B.U Nwafor Memorial Prize for Best Final Year Project in 1995.
His contributions to literary events extend globally, having participated as a guest writer, moderator, and participant at prominent festivals such as the StoryMoja Hay Festival in Kenya, The Garden City Literary Festival in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and the Lagos Book and Art Festival.
Additionally, Kan is the co-founder and Managing Partner at Radi8 Limited, a company providing PR/Advertising, Design, and Events planning services to clients across various sectors including manufacturing, consulting, non-profit, and oil and gas industries.
In June 2003, Nweke was appointed Federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties. He later assumed the role of Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs, Special Duties, and Youth Development in April 2004. Subsequently, in July 2005, he was appointed Minister of Information and National Orientation, serving until May 2007.
