Steve Harvey: Celebrating Black Excellence In Broadcasting And Entrepreneurship

Broderick Stephen Harvey is an American comedian, television and radio personality, and entrepreneur. Born in 1957, he started his career in entertainment as a stand up comedian in 1985 at Hilarities comedy club in Cleveland, Ohio. His charming exuberance while delivering his stand comedy shot him up to a casting role on the ABC ‘Me and the Boys’ show in 1994, and subsequent had him a place for ‘The Steve Harvey Show’ on WB network between 1996 and 2002.

With the steady growth of his stand up comedy in the world of entertainment, Harvey had an incredible performance on the Kings of Comedy tour with Bernie Mac and others. The great success of the tour became the highest comedy tour in history, grossing a staggering sum of $18 million in its first year. The comedy show was later repackaged by Harvey as a television show ‘Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge’, which was on broadcast between 2003 and 2005.

The comic man is the host of ‘The Steve Harvey Morning Show’, a weekday morning radio program that he has been hosting for two decades now, with the show being syndicated throughout the United States. Having stood the test of time in the area of comedy, Harvey stepped up his career into acting roles, with his debut starring in 2003 movie ‘The Fighting Temptations’ alongside with ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing’. He has since proved himself as not just a stand up comedian, but a cheering actor will his roles in like ‘You Got Served’ and ‘Johnson Family Vacation’ films.

He authored the book ‘Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man’ in 2009, with the narrative of the book on the perception of men about women. The 2012 ‘Think Like a Man’, was an adaptation of the motivational-comic book. Harvey is a host of ‘Family Feud’ and ‘Celebrity Family Feud’, which said to have highest ratings above other Feud that has been hosted.

In 2012, Harvey lights out his 27 years of stand up comedy performance with a grand finale of his act at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two hour events was widely watched across via pay-per-view platform. “The road to this final show has been an amazing journey, doing stand-up for the past 27 years, and I can’t thank fans enough after reflecting on all those years on stage,” he said.

Harvey has in many times been a nominee for both Outstanding Talk Show Host and Outstanding Game Show Host. He has been honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has been the regular host for ‘Miss Universe’ pageant since 2015 to date.

As an entrepreneur, Harvey operates a conglomerate with his business name ‘Steve Harvey Global’, which has enterprise like East One a Twelve, Harvey’s in-house production company, and others. In 2019, he announced the launch of a learning hub called Vault, and he also spoke at the first Vault conference held in Los Angeles. 

He owns a philanthropic organization, Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, that provides youth outreach services, and host an annual camping event for fatherless children. Harvey is also in partnership with his alma mater, Kent University, to provide scholarship for the institution.

An entertainment champion he is, his enthusiastic career prides in several awards and recognitions for his relentless works. Harvey is a four-time winner of NAACP Image Awards in the category of Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series; 2011 BET Humanitarian Award; 2017 Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host, among other notable awards.
