After a two-year runway break, Kerby Jean-Raymond’s Pyer Moss will be making its grand return to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September.
According to a press release, Pyer Moss Collection 4 will debut on the second weekend of September, just before this year’s American-themed Met Gala. The upcoming show marks the brand’s first major runway appearance since its 2019’s Collection 3, the third and final installment of the “American” series which called attention to the erasure of Black narratives in popular culture.
Jean-Raymond debuted that final installment in the Kings Theatre in his hometown Flatbush, Brooklyn to a 3,000-person crowd full of industry heads, celebrities, and fans.
Although the brand has been absent from NYFW’s limelight for the last two years, the same can hardly be said about Jean-Raymond. The last year has been a big one for him as he was recently named Vice President of Creative Direction at Reebok.
In the last few years, he has played a vital role within the brand on a collaborative scale and he now oversees projects and provides creative leadership across all of Reebok’s design disciplines.
Also, he launched his own creative community platform in partnership with luxury conglomerate Kering called “Your Friends in New York”, an initiative that aimed to boost emerging brands and help marginalized communities.
He was named American Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2020 CFDA Fashion Awards.
Jean-Raymond is not just a notable designer in the fashion world, he is also a strong advocate for his creative community and Black culture.
