Nigerian-born professor, inventor, engineer Ndubuisi Ekekwe, 45, proudly takes seat as one of Africa’s most renowned entrepreneurs.
A tech genius with many aww inspiring world class inventions among which include the invasive medical robotic, a system which was acquired by US govt in 2017, leading a team that designed generation accelerometer, a major component of iPhone while at Analog Devices Corp where he also distinguished himself by creating the company’s first ever wafer level chip package for inertial sensors.
He is founder of agri-tech company, Zenvus – which employs the use of modern technology to boost agriculture, thereby providing an intelligent solution for farms and gardens. Its mission is to eliminate extreme poverty in emerging world especially Africa by improving crop yield and overall farming productivity. As well as Medcera, a cloud-based platform that allows doctors and patients access to electronic health records unrestricted by geographical location.
Armed with an ever creative mind ready to proffer solutions in order to enhance quality living through technology, US semiconductor industry veteran, Professor Ekekwe is best known for his works in alternative energies, biomedical engineering, medical robotics and neuromorphic engineering. His working experiences include Diamond Bank, Analog Devices Corp, and NNPC.
The Abia state born began his technological enterprenuerial journey many thanks to his undergoing a doctoral program in electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 2004. His first company, First Atlantic Semiconductors & Microelectronics was launched with a product Ekekwe created in his first lab assignment there. Today the company has risen to become West Africa’s leading embedded systems company and the largest Intel Corp partner in Africa.
Average has never been part of the equation, even from way back in Secondary Technical School, Ndubuisi Ekekwe was outstanding and even setting an all time record passing his West African School Certificate (WASC) with 8 distinctions in his village, earning the praise of many, respected personalities inclusive, including Real Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd), a former governor of Imo and Lagos states, and Major General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd), a former governor of Imo State. From there he proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. While at FUTO, Dr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe graduated with a first-class and was also the best graduating student of his set.
Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Lead Faculty of Tekedia Mini-MBA holds two doctoral and four master’s degrees including a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, USA and an MBA from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He obtained BEng from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri where he graduated best student.
A regular blogger at Harvard Business review, Prof Ekekwe is also a Co-Chairman of JPL Financial Group, a California-based financial advisory firm.
Ndubuisi Ekekwe who made a selection board member of the $100 Million Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme was named in 2020 by Guardian Newspapers as one of 60 Nigerians In 60 Years Making “Nigerian Lives Matter”.
A TED Fellow, his amazing work has earned him well derserved accolades including recipient of IGI Global 2010 “Book of the Year” Award.
