Mike Abiola is a Nigerian UK-based journalist and convener. He is the founder and publisher of African Voice Newspapers UK, which is Britain’s number one African newspaper covering topical issues related to Africa and evaluation of the UK government policies with African perspectives. With about two decades of traversing the corridor of media with his renowned editorials, Abiola dubs as a Pan-Africanist who so much believe in upholding Africa’s glory.
Groomed in love for African movies, his passion for the promotion of Afro-culture births African Film Awards (formerly Afro Hollywood Awards), which is a grande award event always filled with glitz and glamor for African films and music. He is not only the pioneer of the epic idea, but the astounding success that he has brought to bear on the yearly event has established the African Film Awards as a trailblazer.
His initiative of celebrating African arts and culture has been alive even almost a decade before anyone ever thought of rolling out the red carpets for African stars which was a small screen industry at that time. However, he took a leap of faith by starting up as Nigerian Videos Magazine in 1994 before metamorphosing to Afro Hollywood Awards in 1996.
Far and wide, the ambassador of Afro-culture is a recipient of several awards for his remarkable contributions to African arts and culture.
