The 2023 Headies Awards have announced Asake as the winner of the Album of the Year category.
Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, and Omah Lay are just a few of the great musicians that Asake, affectionately known by his fans as “Mr Money,” beat to win the title.
In the past, the award has also gone to artists like Fireboy, Falz, Simi, and Kizz Daniel, among others.
Asake, who was also named the Next Rated category winner, was signed to Olamide’s record label YBNL on February 8, 2022. Asake first gained prominence in 2020 when his freestyle “Lady” went viral and received a lot of support from well-known internet influencers like Broda Shaggi, Sydney Talker, NastyBlaq, and others.
Prior to trying his hand at music, he started out as a dancer and worked with numerous theatrical groups and dance organisations throughout high school.
His first single of 2020, “Mr Money,” reiterates his belief in himself and commitment to his identity as he establishes himself as one of the rapidly emerging musicians in Nigeria.
He was nominated for the 2020 City People Music Awards in three categories thanks to his dedication and perseverance, and he won two of them, including Most Popular Song of the Year.
The Nigerian Hip Hop World Magazine launched The Headies, an annual music awards programme, in 2006 to honour outstanding accomplishments in the country’s music sector.
Artists with established and emerging careers perform during the yearly ceremony. The is often streamed live on HipTV, for fans all around Nigeria to watch.
This year, there are more than 20 categories available for the award, including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Rookie of the Year.
