George “The Poet” Mpanga is a British social and political commentator, poet, and rapper. With a stint in rap music, George The Poet is better known for his electrifying poetry disposition with the power behind the mic of “Have You Heard George’s Podcast?” podcast series. The podcast series garnered five awards at the 2019 British Podcast Awards, including “Podcast of the Year” for George The Poet. He also won a Peabody Award, becoming the first European podcast to win the award.
Born to Ugandan parents in London, George The Poet, 29, discovered his career flare at a young age with rap music at age 15. While studying at King’s College, Cambridge, he adapted his rap output into poetry to communicate more effectively with his audience. This has apposition him on the trail to be reckoned with many poetry works.
George The Poet was commissioned by Sky Sports F1 to write poems for their coverage of the 2012 Formula One season and 2013 Monaco Grand Prix. With so much diligence in writing and working on theater and film projects, he released the single “Cat D” in 2015, with his first collection of poetry in book form, Search Party.
In 2018, Mpanga was elected to be a member of the National Council of Arts for Arts Council England. George The Poet opened the BBC coverage of the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, by reading a love poem.
