Emeka Esogbue: Championing Anioma Culture and Heritage

Emeka Esogbue, often referred to as the “Pen Master,” is a distinguished Nigerian journalist, historian, and writer originating from Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Esogbue’s academic journey started at State Primary School, Festac Town, Lagos, followed by Agboju Secondary School, Agboju, Lagos. He earned his B.A. (Hons) in History and International Studies from Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, and later pursued an M.A. in History and Diplomacy from the same institution. He is recognized for his extensive research and writings, particularly focused on the Anioma people of Delta State, where he’s considered a leading advocate.

Currently serving as the Research Editor of Anioma Essence Magazine, affiliated with the Organization For the Advancement of Anioma Culture, Emeka Esogbue is deeply involved in promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Anioma people.

Esogbue is known for his initiatives, including founding the Igbuzo Singles Meet Worldwide, aimed at fostering marriages within the Igbuzo community. He is also the founder of Anioma Watch and Co-founder of Ndi Anioma of Nigeria. Additionally, he initiated the Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors (GIWA), aiming to promote literature from the Ibusa community.

As an accomplished author, Esogbue has penned several notable works, including:

  • “A Study of the Origins and Migrations of Anioma Settlements” (2015)
  • “Essentials of Anioma History” (2016)
  • “A Short History of Omu” (2016)
  • “A History of Ibusa” (2020)
  • “The Ekumeku Movement and its Resistance to Colonial Rule in Nigeria” (2023)

Emeka Esogbue’s contributions have earned him various accolades and honors, such as:

  • Umu-Igbuzo Man of the Year (2014)
  • Social Media Personality of the Year (2015) by Deluxe Entente
  • Patriot Award for his research and literature on Anioma People (2015) by Anioma Association USA, Inc, Georgia Chapter
  • Award for the Support of Marriages in Ibusa (2017) by Igbuzo Singles Meet
  • Anioma Writer of the Year (2021) by Orwin Media
  • Encouragers International Charity Award for the Support of Marriages in Ibusa and Pen Master of the Year (2022)
  • Award for the Support of Beta People of Oshimili North (2023)
