Adesola Kareem Adeduntan is a Nigerian financial executive. He is a graduate of the premiere University of Ibadan from where he graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon after studying Veterinary Medicine in the institution.
He started his banking career in 1994 as a graduate trainee at Afriban (Nig) plc.
Adeduntan further went on to work with Arthur Andersen Nigeria in 1995, at where he rose to the managerial position at firm’s financial services industry business. While working at the financial institution, he accrued a deep wealth of experience and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2000. He continued his vibrancy in training and facilitation of several internal programs in companies like Arthur Andersen Nigeria and KPMG. The Chevening scholar and MBA graduate of Cranfield School of Management became the General Manager and Chief Financial Officer for Citibank Nigeria Limited, and played important roles in the recapitalization of the bank during the banking consolidation era. On joining the Africa Finance Corporation in 2007, he became the pioneer Chief Financial Officer and Business Manager, and championed the team that secured an A3/P2 investment grade international credit rating from Moody’s Investors Service. This made the Africa Finance Corporation the second highest-rated lending financial institution in Africa.
Adeduntan resumed at First Bank of Nigeria Limited in 2014 by assuming the office of the Executive Director/Group Chief Financial Officer of the bank. In 2016, he was appointed as the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, and its commercial banking subsidiaries (FBN UK, FBN Ghana, FBN DRC, FBN Guinea, FBN Gambia, FBN Mortgages, and First Pension Custodian Limited).
As an adept and astute financial officer, Adeduntan was the recipient of the 2016 Banker Of The Year by the Leadership Newspaper “For refusing to ‘go with the flow’ even when the temptation was high and the reward substantial, and for reminding his colleagues that banking is nothing without integrity”. Also, Adeduntan was awarded the “African Banking Personality of the Year” 2019 at the eighth African Leadership Persons of the Year award dinner.
