Benjamin Solomon Carson Sr. (born in September 18, 1951 in Detroit Michigan, U.S) is an American politician, author, and former world renowned neurosurgeon serving as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 till present, under Trump administration. A graduate of Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School. Carson was the director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland (1984-2013), at where he became the youngest Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery in the country. As an impeccable pioneer in neurosurgery, his achievements include; performing the only successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head; performing the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb; developing new methods of treating brain-stems tumors; revitalizing hemispherectomy techniques for controlling seizures; and performing the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus Zambian twins. Carson’s medical exuberance in neurosurgery has been peaked with scores of national merit citations, more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees, and he has written over 100 neurosurgical publications. In 2008, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was bestowed on him, and this is the highest civilian award in the United States.
