Melene Rossouw is a South African attorney and activist. Armed with over a decade experience in the legal, governmental and non-governmental spheres, Melene is internationally recognized as a gender and human rights activist, global award winner, public speaker, moderator, facilitator, strategist and change-driver.
Going by her career, she has held different positions, some of which are attorney, legal researcher, national cabinet committee secretary, special advisor to the minister and ministerial spokesperson. Also, she has served in different capacities like The Constitutional Court of South Africa, Western Cape High Court, The Presidency of South Africa and two National Government Ministries.
Being a dogged activist, she is a Co-founder of Women Lead Movement and currently serves as the Executive Director of the organization which has recently expanded its footprint to Madagascar. The organization seeks to promote a gender equal society and an active and participatory citizenry.
Melene is a member of the African Women Leadership Network and Public Speaking Association of Southern Africa. In recognition of her laudable works, Melene has received nods from within and outside Africa for her contributions to societal sanctity and women development.
In 2019, she became the Goodwill Ambassador for the World Youth Summit for Peace by the International Human Rights Commission and was also an honored of Junior Chamber International Top Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World in the category of Wold Peace/ Human Rights 2020.
She was listed in the second publication of 100 Most Influential African Women in 2020 by Avance Media.
Melene holds a degree in law and Master of Laws (LL.M) degree with specialization in Public and Constitutional Law.
