On Friday, December 16, 2022, a well-known gospel singer named Sammie Okposo was laid to rest. This event sparked a great deal of emotion. Sammie was laid to rest in a private cemetery in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Paul Adefarasin, the Head Pastor of House on the Rock Church, and Dr. Flourish Peters, the Lead Pastor of Love of God in Christ Church, presided over a church service that was held in his honor earlier that day.

While performing the last rites, which included pouring sand into the deceased’s grave, the late singer’s wife, Ozioma, who was dressed in a white attire, lost control of her tears. In doing the same, Alula, the late singer’s daughter, received assistance as well.

To pay her respects in person, Nikki Laoye was present. Before leaving the cemetery, she and several other people placed wreaths on his tomb.

The late “Wellu Wellu” master, as Okposo is affectionately known, was honored on Tuesday, December 13 with a “Farewell Praise Party” by his coworkers in Lagos, keeping his memory alive.

In addition to Atunyota Akpobome, alias Ali Baba, and his wife Mary, other performers that attended the event were Tope Alabi, Ayo Makun, Charles Inojie, Segun Arinze, Chinedu Ikedieze, Mike Abdul, and Efe Nathan.

The performance by Sammie’s eldest daughter Alula of one of her father’s compositions, “Jesu,” was one of the event’s highlights. Due to the fact that so many people were moved by her performance, it stirred up new levels of emotion.

Along with her performance, gospel singer Tope Alabi spoke warmly about Okposo and how he insisted on coming to her 50th birthday during her on-stage monologue.

Sammie was the first person who forced actor and comedian Ayo Makun, aka AY, to leave the boundaries of Nigeria, according to AY.

Ozioma, the late singer’s widow, offered a heartfelt ode in his honor: “Sammie served as my true love. With him in my life, I felt there would never be loneliness. In his presence, music was always in the air, singing filled his days and nights. Even after his demise, I hear him singing. His song fills the massive hole left in my heart. Words are too far and few to express how much I will miss him. Through trials, our love for each other always lifted us above the storm.”

In addition to Sinach, Moses Bliss, Ali Baba, Akporo, Timi Dakolo, Eben, Vector, Obiwon, and Yinka Davies, the industry tributes night event was also attended by them.
