by Duchess Magazine

More precious was the light in your eyes than all the roses in the world…

Chris Mba, a seasoned pop singer, passed away following a protracted battle with heart problems.

The artist passed away on Wednesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He was most known for his jerry curl and 1980s singles like “Funky Situation,” “Baby Don’t Cry,” “Making My Way,” and “Love Everlasting.”

On Thursday, Michael Odiong, the general manager of Premier Music, the label Chris was signed to, announced the information in a post on his Instagram page.

He noted: “PREMIER RECORDS EXPRESSES SADNESS ON THE DEATH OF ONE OF ITS ARTISTES, CHRIS MBA.

“The management of Premier Records Ltd has expressed sadness on the demise of one of its artistes, Mr Chris Mba, who passed on yesterday 3rd May 2023 after a long battle with heart issues.

According to Mr Odiong, Chris Mba was a multi-talented artist who localised pop music by fusing it with African rhythms and indigenous instruments. He became popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s thanks to the release of songs like “Baby Don’t Cry,” “Money,” and other smashes.

“We condole with the family and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
