Man Crush Monday (MCM): Patrick Ngowi

by Duke Magazine

Patrick Ngowi is a young entrepreneur, activist for the environment, and philanthropist from Tanzania. He started his first business when he was 15 years old.

He started the Helvetic Group of Companies, which is East Africa’s fastest-growing network of renewable energy companies.

Patrick started The Light for Life Foundation in 2012. It is a non-profit social enterprise that gives free solar energy kits and solar and small wind power systems to youths and women in rural and off-grid parts of Tanzania.

He cares a lot about the growth and development of East Africa and spends most of his time and energy on business and charity projects in the area.

Forbes put Ngowi on its list of Africa’s Best Young Entrepreneurs Under 30 and its list of Young African Millionaires to Watch in 2013. He was again named by Helvetic Group to the list of Africa’s Most Promising Young Entrepreneurs for 2014. Forbes and CNBC both named him East Africa’s Young Business Leader of the Year for 2014.

Ngowi has spoken at many international events, and in 2015, Tanzania chose him to be the Chairman of the United Nations Global Compact. A year later, it was said that Ngowi was one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Global Pioneers for the United Nations.
