by Duchess Magazine

As Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was honored for his humanitarian achievements at the Pan African Legacy Awards last weekend, memories of the afrobeat maestro were revived. The “abami eda” was represented by Made, an afrobeat musician, who accepted the honor on place of his grandfather.

Additionally honored for their excellent social impacts were Nigerians from all walks of life.

The convener of the award ceremony, Tosin Owolabi, gave a brief explanation of the motivation behind the event. He noted that the award had been running for about ten years, first going by the name “Legacy Awards,” before changing to “The Pan African Legacy Awards,” with a wider focus on honoring the unsung heroes who are carrying out deserving deeds.

The feisty attorney Femi Falana (SAN) and his wife Funmi were also given a lifetime achievement award.

Rose Mordi likewise, received the award for “Healthcare and Humanity,” while Abisoye Obayan received the prize for “Music Entrepreneur of the Year.”
