Aderemi Makanjuola: A Silent Achiever in Business and Philanthropy

Mr. Aderemi Makanjuola, a distinguished Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, was born on November 24th, 1948, in Lagos, Nigeria. He hails from the Lagos Island Local Government Area and has built an impressive career marked by notable achievements. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Leicester and a Master’s degree in Manpower Planning from the University of Manchester, both in the United Kingdom. His career spans over two decades of experience in Banking and Finance, positioning him as a key figure in Nigeria’s financial sector. As the Chairman of Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc, Mr. Makanjuola has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and success.

Before leading Caverton Offshore Support Group, Mr. Makanjuola served as Executive Vice-Chairman of Devcom Merchant Bank, demonstrating his expertise in the financial sector. His leadership extends beyond Caverton, as he was appointed Chairman of International Commercial Bank Senegal, S.A. in 2014, part of the ICB Banking Group, which operates across Asia, Europe, and Africa. His influence and leadership are also reflected in his role as the Chairman of the Lagos State Security Trust, among other directorships in key institutions across Nigeria.

A philanthropist at heart, Mr. Makanjuola’s contributions to education and healthcare are remarkable. He was appointed Chancellor of Edo State University, Uzairue, in 2019, where his commitment to education has been evident through his donations of 500-seater lecture theatres to three universities in Nigeria—Federal University of Technology Minna, Summit University Offa, and Lagos State University (LASU). He also donated advanced Molecular Biology Diagnostic Laboratories to Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) and Edo State University, Uzairue, showcasing his dedication to advancing education and healthcare.

In recognition of his service and achievements, Mr. Makanjuola was conferred with the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2022. His legacy as a silent achiever and an accomplished businessman continues to inspire, particularly in his efforts to support the less privileged and foster opportunities for success in education and beyond.
